Queensland Arts Showcase Program (QASP) round 3 successful recipients

• Yumpla Nerkep Foundation trading as Straight from the Strait - $70,000 to support final development stage for ‘Straight from the Strait’, a new First Nations musical-theatre work integrating traditional and contemporary music, languages and choreography.
• Liesel Zink - $150,000 over two years to support Us And All Of This, a large-scale contemporary dance project gathering 150 people of diverse backgrounds to perform en-masse in public space.
• Cairns Indigenous Art Fair Limited - $70,000 to support the CIAF Advancing Independent Artists Program, which will create development pathways for independent First Nations artists.
• Ross Manning - $13,900 to support a 4-week residency at the prestigious Canberra Glassworks, enabling Ross to learn new skills and develop new working methods, leading to the creation of a new body of sculptural works for exhibition.
• Dots+Loops - $140,000 over two years to support Dots+Loops’ 10^th Anniversary Season: 2023-2024, comprising two live music festivals, a 10-Year Anniversary Concert in March 2024, and Fellowship Program providing mentoring sessions, workshops, and collaborative performance opportunities for eight emerging Australian artists.
• Aunty Roxanne McDonald, Liesel Zink and Ngoc Phan - $26,000 to support Our New, a socially-engaged project gathering women from diverse backgrounds to envisage new futures. This funding leverages support from physical theatre company Force Majeure and an Artist Residency at Museum of Brisbane (MoB) to fully realise the project in 2023.
• Jodie Rottle - $9,929 for Companions, two new composition works by Jodie Rottle and Hannah Reardon-Smith, that celebrate disability and queer friendship. Companions is being composed for the award-winning anti-racist ensemble, Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra and vocalist Erin Fitzsimon (aka INIGO), to be presented at the Brisbane Powerhouse MELT Festival 2023.
• Dead Puppet Society Limited - $146,046 over two years (plus $10,000 to support new live or recorded music by Queensland-based composers, musicians or librettists) to support key activities in Dead Puppet Society’s 2023 to 2025 program, including the development of NIGHT ON THE MILKY WAY TRAIN and THE DPS LAB, the public-facing outcome of DPS Academy at the Princess Theatre.
• Metro Arts Ltd - $70,000 (plus $43,404 for an industry placement) to support a two-week dance festival in 2024 produced by Metro Arts and co-presented with Blakdance, Mad Dance House, Studio1, Dancenorth and Ausdance QLD, celebrating and elevating new choreographic voices, the festival focuses on developing and supporting independent emerging dance artists.
• Heatley Secondary College - $68,740 (plus $36,000 for an industry placement and $9,620 to support new live or recorded music by Queensland-based composers, musicians or librettists) to support People, Culture & Country – 2024/25, Indigenous and non-Indigenous students working collaboratively, with Indigenous artists teaching cultural knowledge, skills, and techniques to produce contemporary wearable artworks based on Indigenous Culture, displayed in an exhibition and future stage performance.
• Dr Courtney Coombs - $14,750 to support skills development and a residency at Icelandic Textile Centre, and Production of new work for solo exhibition at Milani Carpark Gallery that presents a quieter, more introverted type of queer lived experience.
• Mr Alex Raineri - $48,886 over two years to support Brisbane Music Festival (BMF) – ‘23 season and ‘bloodpaths’ in 2024, a two-performer contemporary dance and art music project.
• Somerset Storyfest Limited - $66,000 to support Storyfest Writers Festival 2024, a program of author talks, workshops and creative experiences, featuring predominantly Queensland artists.
• Brisbane Powerhouse - $70,000 to support ΩHM: Festival of Other Music 2024, embracing adventurous approaches to sound, music and performance featuring audiovisual installations, newly developed works, international headliners with national and local acts.
• Belloo Creative - $70,000 (plus $60,000 for an industry placement and $10,000 to support new live or recorded music by Queensland-based composers, musicians or librettists) to support HAVEN – Home to Bilo creative development and regional Queensland premiere in 2024, and re-development of ROVERS for schools touring.
• Casus Circus Pty Ltd - $40,000 for a 5-week development of their newest production, Apricity. Collaborating with 7 Queensland artists, this tourable and durable show promises to captivate audiences with its innovative approach.
