Stormwater connection works – Russell Street, South Brisbane

From 17 May to late June 2021, works will be undertaken on a new stormwater pipeline connection on Russell Street. The stormwater pipe will be moved north of its current location, towards the NPAV site, to accommodate construction on the project.

What to expect?

• Stormwater pipeline relocation works involve saw cutting, a vacuum truck, small excavators, and workers in the area.
• There will be a single lane and loading bay closure on Russell Street during construction hours, 6am to 6.30pm, with traffic control in place to direct construction, commercial and emergency vehicles.
• Two lanes will remain open outside of construction hours for public traffic access.
• A loading bay on the northern side of Russell Street will be closed for the duration of these works to ensure safety around the site. Commercial vehicles will be directed to use the Lendlease loading bay outside the NPAV site.
• The footpath on the southern side of Russell Street will remain open at all times.

Works continue on-site

Structural works are progressing on the substructure, or below ground works, including elements of the new theatre, from the lower basement to ground level. The theatre will soon visibly rise from the ground, with on-ground concrete slabs poured and concreting works for the walls continuing.

Over the next month the following activities will be undertaken:

• Formwork, reinforcement works and concreting for vertical walls up to ground level.
• Concrete slab pours for basement level.
• Reinforcing to the lift shafts and stair cores, basement to ground level.
• New stormwater connection installation on Russell Street.

What to expect during construction?

• Changes to Russell Street access for stormwater connection works.
• Approximately 20 trucks entering and exiting site each day for concrete pours and deliveries.
• Some noise and vibration will occur, however will be kept to a minimum.
• Any dust impacts will be managed with water on the site directly where applicable.
