First Nations Commissioning Fund (FNCF) Round 1 recipients
- ++Mr Aidan Rowlingson - $80,000 for CAPRICORN a new play telling a contemporary First Nations story to be presented as part of La Boite’s 2023 season.
- Bamanga Bubu Ngadimunku Aboriginal Corporation—Yalanji Arts $63,274 for Yalanji Art On Textile and Paper to up-skill Yalanji artists and arts workers and provide an opportunity to participate in exhibition events that elevate their national and international reputation.
- **Cairns Indigenous Art Fair Ltd - $70,000 plus $60,000 Industry Placement for the Coconut Leaf Project, a cross-cultural community project celebrating Torres Strait Islander craft and weaving.
- ++Mr Chris Williams - $39,400 for Didgeridoo Commissioning Project 2023 Activities to commission and perform 3 new works each year for didgeridoo and small chamber music ensembles until 2032 when Brisbane hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- Karul Projects - $67,200 for Kuramanunya a new dance theatre work, poetic text and an original soundscore including an honouring ceremony for the First Nations peoples and bloodlines that didn’t survive British colonisation.
- ++Nintiringanyi Indigenous Corporation - $69,250 for Sand Stories a new dance work about the ancient Gulki-barra clan of the Yidindji tribe of Far North Queensland presented by Miriki.
- **Robert Henderson Art Trust T/A Birrunga Gallery & Dining - $70,000 plus $60,000 Industry Placement for a Creative Cultural Development Program with one First Nations artist to be selected for a one-year program to exhibit new work and a mentorship with international artist Birrunga Wiradyuri.

Queensland Arts Showcase Program (QASP) Round 1 recipients
- Miss Andrea Lam - $40,000 for the development and premiere of ITEM, a femme-fronted immersive dance/film/theatre work created by artists of Indian diaspora.
- Ms Angela Murphy - $19,242 to present a verbatim theatre production based on interviews with regional women in Far North Queensland, exploring the diversity, achievements and support these women bring to other women and their local communities.
- **Cairns Indigenous Art Fair Limited - $70,000 plus $60,000 Industry Placement to present Urban BLAKtivation, a family friendly, accessible arts and cultural event activating the Cairns CBD with Indigenous performance, art installation, story tellers and poets.
- Cairns Regional Council – Creative Life - $49,900 for the premiere of Sand Stories by Miriki, a contemporary dance piece told through the eyes of First Nations teens from the Cairns region, at Cairns Festival 2023.
- ++Cicada International Ltd - $80,000 to support increased access to capacity building for the Australian Women in Music (AWMA) Queensland Regional & Remote Women’s Music Program, enabling 8 recipients from regional and remote Queensland to attend the 2023 AWMA First Nation’s showcase, forums and event.
- Ms Jessie Lloyd - $37,000 for the research, consultation and composition of 10 new songs in the Kala Lagaw Ya language of Western Torres Strait for the purpose of learning simple words and phrases for beginners and to continue cultural song traditions into contemporary music.
- **La Boite Theatre Limited - $70,000 plus $48,600 Industry Placement for the world premiere of IRL (In Real Life), a brand-new contemporary play by Queensland writer Lewis Treston.
- Dr Louise Mayhew - $13,041 for Lemonade: Letters to Art, for Queensland-based writers to showcase the best of the state’s exhibitions in public, commercial and experimental art galleries.
- **/++Musical Broadcasting Society of Queensland Ltd - $75,000 plus $53,000 Industry Placement to present the 4MBS Festival of Classics featuring 30 events including concerts, workshops, and live theatre across venues in South-East Queensland.
- **Musical Theatre Australia - $41,216 plus $36,250 Industry Placement for a regionally-based creative team with top industry professionals to develop the Queensland musical "A Girl's Guide to World War" for distribution through licensing and touring.
- **Outer Space - $69,993 plus $58,620 Industry Placement for the presentation of 10 critically engaged exhibitions of emerging and early to mid-career visual artists at the Judith Wright Arts Centre Gallery, accompanied by critical arts writing and engagement programs.
- Ms Sarah Poulgrain - $35,828 for a residency at Watch This Space and a mixed media and visual arts exhibition at Wreckers Upstairs, and to produce related educational resources
- shake & stir theatre co - $60,000 for the presentation of the world premiere of TAE TAE IN THE LAND OF YAAAS!, an uplifting new work inspired by the true story of Estee Lee promoting the acceptance, joys and realities of living with a disability, at QPAC.
- Shock Therapy Arts Ltd - $65,000 to create a new, issue-based theatre show for the company’s 2024 education program.
- Southern Cross Soloists Music Ltd - $61,550 for the Didgeridoo Commissioning Project 2023.
- **Studio1 - $70,000 plus $40,700 Industry Placement for The Workroom Program, a professional development and residency program for indie dance & physical theatre artists.
- Topology Inc - $38,400 for a new collaboration with Normanby Aboriginal Corporation and the Black Image band delivering On-Country Creative Bootcamps on Normanby Station for local emerging First Nations musicians.
- University of Queensland Art Museum - $48,000 to present MARE AMORIS | SEA OF LOVE, a group exhibition that positions ‘love’ as a political tool.
- Whitsundays Songwriter Festival - $48,870 to present the Whitsundays Songwriter Festival, including a four-day Professional Songwriter Residency, an Emerging Songwriter Workshop and Concert and Conversation to tell Queensland stories through new musical works.
- **/++Writers Republic - $79,000 plus $16,000 Industry Placement to develop a new musical theatre production based on the 90's animated TV series Li'l Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers.
- WulgurUkaba Walkabouts - $70,000 to co-create and premiere a new performance work with Dancenorth Australia, celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music, song, and dance, Duldhina + Noise and featuring a composition by William Barton.
