Toowoomba’s alive with school holidays arts and learning experiences

When it comes to fun and engaging STEM and early literacy activities this school holidays, Toowoomba children and families are spoiled for choice.

From drone coding and art-infused storytime sessions to magical science activities centred on Alice’s adventures in Wonderland, there are unique experiences to be had in libraries and museums across Toowoomba.

Minister for Science and Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said the Palaszczuk Government was proud to support and promote so many wonderful cultural and educational activities in the Garden City.

“These experiences highlight just how important arts and science are in not only introducing our young people to new skills, but also in bringing people together and contributing to diverse and dynamic communities,” Ms Enoch said.

“Events like Activating Art at Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery and the musical interpretation of children’s book Bella’s Bad Hair Day are being delivered as part of the State Library of Queensland’s popular First 5 Forever program to support early literacy.

“The Palaszczuk Government invests $5 million annually in First 5 Forever to help Queensland families and primary caregivers shape strong foundation literary skills in children aged five and under.

“Delivered in partnership with 68 local governments in 2018, First 5 Forever features in 320 public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres, and supports our government’s commitment to nurture the creative minds of our children.”

Toowoomba Regional Council Portfolio Leader for Library and Cultural Services Cr Joe Ramia said First 5 Forever allowed the library to develop partnerships that provided new ways to connect with local children and families.

“Toowoomba’s young people have benefited greatly from First 5 Forever, with the program creating enjoyable and fun learning opportunities that have delighted our entire community,” Mr Ramia said.
