The excitement for La Scala’s exclusive simulcast enthralled Queenslanders everywhere

More than four and half thousand regional Queenslanders witnessed the artistry of the magnificent Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company performing Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote via live simulcast from Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) on Saturday 10 November.

Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said the internationally celebrated dance company wowed audiences in 10 regional Queensland locations.

"This is the first time Teatro alla Scala has performed in Queensland, and Australia, in the company's 240-year history and its wonderful Queensland audiences have been embracing the opportunity to see this amazing ballet," Minister Enoch said.

"Thousands of people turned out to the see the simulcast performance at regions including Bundaberg, maryborough, Rockhampton, Mount Isa, Toowoomba, Longreach, Townsville, Mackay and Halifax.

“I'd like to thank all of the regional councils, venues and community groups for the great lengths they went to work with QPAC to deliver this amazing opportunity to their communities.”

"Who knows, Queensland's next ballet star may just have been sitting in one of these centre's and been inspired to take up ballet for the very first time."

Ms Enoch said seeing the company here in Queensland has been the result of six years work by QPAC and Teatro alla Scala to make this season happen as part of the QPAC International Series," Ms Enoch said.

QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas said delivering the simulcast was an important part of what QPAC does to connect audiences across Queensland with world class performing arts experiences.

“We wanted to ensure people across the state, who couldn’t make it to Brisbane for the season, had the chance to gather together and experience this amazing company, which is one of the most recognised cultural brands in the world, while they are here in Queensland exclusively,” said Mr Kotzas.

There is still an opportunity for audiences to see Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company perform Giselle and Don Quixote this weekend at QPAC.
