$8.7m invested in three years of QLD Arts Showcase Program

A Palaszczuk Government arts program has successfully reached another milestone, with $8.7 million invested in 270 Queensland cultural projects over three years.

Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said the Queensland Arts Showcase Program (QASP) has been buoyed by the latest round of funding, with $153,335 helping five more recipients grow cultural tourism, support local jobs, and deliver memorable experiences for audiences and artists alike.

“This most recent QASP funding round has helped the Yarrabah Band Festival secure one of Australia’s most iconic songwriters Paul Kelly, who will perform in tropical north Queensland, alongside local bands and community performers,” Ms Enoch said.

“The Yarrabah Band Festival, presented by Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council and Queensland Music Festival, is a celebration of music and culture, and a key event for the community, attracting more than 4,000 visitors.”

“QASP funding will also support Burdekin Readers and Writers Association to deliver an exciting three-day festival, designed to inspire the love of reading and writing for audiences of all ages.

“The Ignite Your Mind Burdekin Readers and Writers Festival 2018 will feature more than 20 Australian authors and local writers, as well as programs and workshops to encourage the next generation of Queensland literary enthusiasts.”

Other recent recipients of QASP funding in this new round include Dots+Loops, who will bring together avant-garde performers from a range of disciplines for the multi-day Liminality music festival, and contemporary artist Daniele Constance, who will deliver performance work Explain Normal at Metro Arts.

QASP is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s ongoing investment to grow the Queensland’s arts and cultural sector and support rich arts experiences across the state.
